How long have you been in business?
The Loory family arrived in Dover from New York City's Lower East Side in 1911. Harry Loory's father, Max, opened Loory's Department Store on Dover's main thoroughfare, Blackwell Street. After graduating from Dover High School, Harry worked as store manager for his father.
Harry married Eva Holland of Easton, Pennsylvania, and decided to set up business for himself. In 1931 Harry Loory Fine Furniture opened about four blocks away from Loory's Department Store. The original furniture store still stands, with the entrance facing East Blackwell Street. Eve Loory sold her fur coat so they could buy a delivery truck. Business was good. During the height of the Depression, Harry decided to expand, and he built the enormous showroom you see today. Through the years, the store continued to grow in size as Harry annexed stores next to the first buildings. Today we have over 50,000 square feet of furniture on display.
In 1969, Mel Loory began to work full time with his father. After Harry's death in 1982, Mel continued to run the business, along with his wife, Barbara Coombs Loory. Eve Loory continued to help out at the store until shortly before her death in 1993.

We carry all types of furniture: upholstered sofas, dining room sets, living room sets, entertainment centers, home office furniture, Sealy mattresses, recliners, occasional tables, mirrors, lamps, bedroom sets, baby furniture, teen furniture, bunk beds, bean bags, curio cabinets, dinette sets, kitchen tables, card tables & chairs, bars & barstools, wall decorations, decorative painted pieces, and more.

Mel Loory prides himself on being a third-generation businessman in Dover. He has closely followed the business philosophy and ideals of his father. Harry Loory Fine Furniture is run with an emphasis on quality customer service, reasonable prices, and excellent selection.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We have been family-owned and operated since our opening in 1931. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service, both before and after you purchase furniture from us.
We're often asked by worried-looking customers: "How much assembly is involved?" The answer is simple: None! You don't have to carry anything, or assemble anything if you buy furniture from us.
Before your pieces even leave our store, they are thoroughly gone over by our expert furniture handlers for touch-ups. Delivery of your order is free. Our delivery men will bring the pieces into your home and position them as you wish, and, before they leave, our men will always make sure your pieces are fully set up to your satisfaction.
If there is a problem with a piece after we have delivered it, call us immediately at (973) 361-2244. We aim to please, and will do whatever it takes to make your experience a positive one.

We have a 50,000 square foot showroom centrally located In Dover, NJ. Here, you'll be able to see all the types of furniture we carry, as well as all the furniture manufacturers we carry. We do an extensive business in special catalog orders. If we don't have it on the floor, we can get it for you!
